The Russian government provides so-called ‘state-funded spots’ at universities, for international applicants.

Allocation of quotas is carried out by the Federal Agency for the Commonwealth of Independent States Affairs, Compatriots Living Abroad, and International Humanitarian Cooperation (Rossotrudnichestvo). Applications must be submitted before November 1st of the year before the year of planned enrollment through its international network of offices, as well as through embassies of Russia abroad.

Visit education-in-russia.com to access the submission system.

Mining University is engaged in the second stage of selection. This means that the university only accepts or rejects applications that have passed Rossotrudnichestvo’s selection process. Many foreign countries distribute scholarships independently and collect the approved candidates’ applications and other paperwork when preparing for the second stage.

The second stage starts before summer, when the applications of all approved candidates are uploaded into the information system to be assessed by universities.

Once the candidate’s application has been approved, he/she will receive an educational invitation, which allows to be enrolled on the date of arrival to the university of their choice (regardless of the deadlines of the general admissions campaign and without additional exams).

A visa invitation should also become available through the Rossotrudnichestvo system, which the candidates can use to request a student visa at the Russian Embassy/Consulate. At the moment of enrollment, the candidate must have chosen an educational program from the list of programs in the subject area.

In the course of their training, students enrolled on the government scholarship can only transfer among programs within the scope of their subject area.

Applicants who have failed or chose not to apply for a government scholarship should be aware that education costs in Russia are significantly lower as compared to those at universities in the U.S. or Europe, while the level of training is comparable with prominent European and American universities. This makes Russia a better option for acquiring higher education training.

We look forward to welcoming you to St. Petersburg Mining University!
