The history of the study of economic disciplines at the Mining University dates back to the establishment of the regulations of the Institute of the Corps of Mining Engineers on January 1, 1834, according to which mining law, drafting and accounting were among the disciplines of compulsory teaching. In accordance with the Charter of the Mining Institute of 1866, a course in political economy was introduced into the curriculum. On March 18, 1896, mining statistics and mining accounting were included in the number of subjects.
In 1929, the first independent structural subdivision of the Mining Institute, specializing in the teaching of economic disciplines, became the Department of Political Economy and Mining Economics, which until 1938 was headed by M.A. Altshuller. In 1938, on the basis of the department, the department of Marxism-Leninism was created; in 1946 the department of political economy began to function again as an independent unit.
In 1934 the Department of Economics and Organization of the Mining Industry was organized, which, in terms of its faculty composition, was separated from the previously existing Department of Political Economy and Economics of the Mining Industry. The department carried out active methodological work; in 1936 the team of the department published the first textbook in the country "The Economics of the Mining Industry" (M.: ONTI, 1936), which played an important role in the economic training of geologists, miners and metallurgists in all universities of the country. The authors of the book were E. L. Gorokhovsky, D. M. Strashunsky, and I. A. Nedoluzhenko. From 1938 the department was headed by prof. I A. Nedoluzhenko.
In 1948, the Department of Economics and Organization of the Mining Industry was divided into two departments: Economics of Mining Industry (Head of the Department: Associate Prof. I.A. Nedoluzhenko) and Organization of Mining Industry (Head of the Department: Associate Prof. O.B. Bokiy), in September 1955 the departments were again united. From 1950 to 1955 in addition, engineer-economists were trained in higher engineering courses.
In 1965, in order to implement decisions to strengthen the economic education of engineers, the Faculty of Engineering and Economics was established, the first in the country's mining and geological universities. When the faculty was created, it included the departments of political economy, economics and organization of the mining industry, computational mathematics, and automated control systems for mining and metallurgical enterprises. Simultaneously with the creation of the faculty, for the first time in our country, the training of mining engineer-economists for the geological service was initiated.
In 1976, the Department of Economics and Organization of the Mining Industry was divided into two departments: Economics and Organization of Mining Industry (EOGP), and Economics and Organization of Geological Exploration (EOGRR). Professor Lobanov N.Ya. Was elected head of the EOGP department, Professor Evangulov B.B. was elected head of the EOGRR department.
Since 1988, the university started training students in the specialty 08.01.09 - Accounting, analysis and auditing, as a result of which the department of economics and organization of geological exploration.
