The Faculty of Fundamental and Humanitarian Disciplines was established in 1995 by the decision of the Academic Council of the University and is an educational, scientific and administrative unit that unites departments that teach humanitarian, physical and mathematical, natural sciences and technical disciplines, as well as physical education of students of all specialties and directions of preparation of the Mining University. Since February 2020, the faculty has become a graduating faculty and has been training students in the areas of study "Informatics and Computer Engineering" and "Information Systems and Technologies". The faculty has network academies of well-known manufacturers of network equipment and software companies such as Cisco, Huawei and Oracle.

The faculty ensures the work of the preparatory department for foreign citizens entering undergraduate, specialist, graduate and postgraduate study programs.

The scientific activity of the faculty in various fields of humanitarian, social and interdisciplinary research related to the development of the mineral resource industry, mining and education at the Mining University, Russia and in the world, is carried out on the basis of the Problem Laboratory of Social Sciences.
