Overview

In the process of training in this speciality, students get profoundly acquainted with the fundamentals of Earth sciences, study in detail the geology of mineral deposits, conditions for their formation and placement in the earth’s crust, as well as the composition and methods of diagnosing natural types of ores. Students master the methods of studying minerals, rocks and ores; both in theory and practice. The programs of educational disciplines provide for training of qualified specialists in many fields of applied geology, who are familiar with methods of forecasting, prospecting and exploration of mineral deposits and solving problems of mining geology, while they're trained in computer technology for geological environment modeling and estimating mineral reserves.

Reasons for choosing a course
  • The wide umbrella of field work includes familiarization with the natural conditions and features of the geological structure of all regions of Russia, including hard-to-reach areas of the Arctic, Siberia and the Far East; the work of a geologist includes participation in various forms of international cooperation, as well as exchange of information with specialists from other countries;

  • Substantial wages;

  • A large number of offers on the labor market makes it easy to find professional employment;

  • Wide possibilities in choosing the content of work: field work during geological surveying, prospecting and exploration of deposits, work in the geological departments of mining companies, laboratory research, design surveys, consulting analytics, among others.

CAREER OPPORTUNITIES

The program trains mining geological engineers of broad specialization; they can work at the companies of the mineral resource complex, in research and production organizations and research institutes engaged in the development of the country’s mineral resource base: geological surveying of territories (state-owned enterprises and private companies conducting work on geological mapping, e.g., VSEGEI, Rosgeologiya, UGSE, FSUE Krasnoyarskgeolsemka and other regional organizations); prospecting and exploration of mineral resources deposits (UGRK Uranetsvetmet, SPG Regis, Urangeo, etc.); geological support for mining (Polyus, Polymetal, Nornickel, Alrosa, PhosAgro, Metalloinvest, UMMC, Russian Copper Company, etc.) and research work in the study of subsoil resources (institutes of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Federal Agency Rosnedra, such as VIMS, TSNIGRI, IGEM, IGABM, etc.); design and consulting (TOMS, Argeisi, etc.).
